The Coupon Tag: Born from a Reddit Request
Someone on Reddit asked if I could surface eBay listings with available coupons. Honestly, I didnât even know eBayâs API exposed this data - but it does. So now every eligible eBay listing on PricePerGig shows a Coupon tag when discounts are available.
This is exactly why I love building PricePerGig. The community asks, and I try to deliver.
How It Works
I check eBayâs API for listings that have AvailableCoupons set to true. These are genuine eBay promotional codes that apply automatically at checkout - not third-party discount codes you have to hunt for on coupon sites.
Listings update every 2 hours, so new coupon deals appear throughout the day as eBay adds them.

Tips for Coupon Hunting
1. Check Coupon Terms
Some coupons have minimum purchase requirements or only apply to certain payment methods. The coupon details appear on eBayâs listing page when you click through.
2. Act Fast
Coupon deals are time-sensitive. Popular drives with good discounts can sell out, and promotions expire. When you find a good deal, donât wait too long.
3. Compare the Final Price
Even with a coupon, always check the price-per-gigabyte. A 10% discount on an overpriced listing might still be worse value than a regular-priced listing elsewhere. However, what you shoudl notice is that PricePerGig lists the drive without the coupon, so the price after coupon will be better than what you see initially, so you shoud already be looking within your price range, and then getting a bonus discount, yay.
4. Combine with Best Offer
Some sellers accept offers AND have coupons available. You might be able to negotiate the price down, then apply the coupon on top. Worth trying on higher-value drives or when youâre buying multiples, which is exactly how I use best offer; need 2 matching drives, great, now I expect a little more discount :)
5. Check All Three Markets
If you can order from the US, UK, or Germany, check all three. Coupon availability varies by region, and sometimes the best deal is on a different eBay site.
Why eBay Coupons Beat Other Discounts
eBay coupons are genuine platform-level discounts, not:
- Fake âwasâ prices that were never real
- Third-party coupon codes that might not work
- Membership fees disguised as discounts
When I tag something with Coupon, it means eBay has confirmed thereâs an active promotion on that listing. Thatâs actual money off at checkout.
