An SSD comes via a SATA or an NVMe interface. The Interface is what connector do you want. SSD, or Solid State Disk drives are the technology; the super clever part that utilises flash memory to store Terabytes of data and allow almost instant access to that data compared to a standard, spinning HDD.
NVMe interface IS faster, so consider the interface like a motorway/highway, an NVMe has many more lanes to hold more traffic than an SSD, but an SSD is still multi lane and super fast, and you only need those extra lanes if you really need them.
If you’re upgrading from a HDD, save yourself some money, and get an SSD if the price is right. If you’ve got an SSD, and can see the need for even more speed like loading huge AAA games, or just badly optimised ones (looking at you A Plague Tale, great game though in a dark room, late at night, those rats will have you) but you will struggle to notice the difference in every day use.

- Machine has a free M.2 NVMe slot and prices are close: buy NVMe. No reason not to.
- Upgrading an older laptop or desktop with only SATA: buy a SATA SSD, it is a perfect fit.
- Want cheap bulk SSD storage where speed is not critical: SATA often costs less, so it is fine.
